…& what better place to begin than at little infinite to find your best suited for your zodiac sign?
Ahead, each of the twelve astrology signs as types of poetry so that you can find the poetry the stars have destined for you.
Aries (March 21–April 19): BALLAD
With the perfect mixture of creativity, passion and fierce commitment, an Aries is absolutely a poetic ballad. Writing and performing your very own song takes bravery. Since Aries’s home is in Mars and named after the god of war, Ares, bravery is its strong suit! A bold and passionate Aries would make the perfect power ballad songwriter.
Taurus (April 20–May 20): SONNET
Most Taureans are far more traditional and romantic than their stubborn tendencies will let them admit. Taurus, you already know you’re a sonnet. With its classical 14-line structure and dreamy iambic pentameter, the decadent life you live in your mind is most accurately matched with the very style Shakespeare himself obsessed over.
Gemini (May 21–June 21): LIMERICK
A fun and quick-witted zodiac sign deserves a poetry style to match. Geminis would be limericks, with their playful AABBA rhyme scheme matching a Gemini’s charming and adaptable personality. Both getting their points across in the most fun and succinct way possible.
Cancer (June 22–July 22): ODE
The emotional waters run deep with this empathetic and sensitive sign. So what could be more fitting for Cancereans than odes? Glorifying what and whom they love is a Cancerean’s favorite pastime making them the perfect match for a style all about elaborate praise and celebration
Leo (July 23–August 22): BLACKOUT
In my opinion, no one has more fierce and sturdy opinions and boundaries than a Leo. Both a good and bad thing for others, this black and white perspective of the world helps everyone understand the power of a Leo’s roar. Blackout poetry has the same powerful energy. Since it blacks out words on already existing material to reveal its true meaning, both blackout poetry and Leos remove what they are not to create art and truth with what remains.
Virgo (August 23–September 22): EPIC
Ever the detail-oriented and precise sign of the zodiac, Virgo leaves no detail out. Their exacting nature leads them to love sharing their perspectives in a way that is clearly understood. An epic poem is able to take its time and accurately share its point along the way. Both this sign and poem are able to help others understand that the journey is just as important as the destination!
Libra (September 23–October 23): HAIKU
Classy and elegant, Libra is as chic as a haiku! This Japanese poetry style holds so much space for expression within its three lines of 17 syllables. With such little space to work with, every word in a haiku is carefully chosen to evoke the proper emotions, much like a Libra’s well-curated life!
Scorpio (October 24–November 21): ELEGY
A Scorpio’s love for the taboo and avant garde parts of life make them one of a kind. It also makes them a perfect fit for elegies. Scorpio is the one sign that embraces death and rebirth so naturally it can make all who witness it both uncomfortable and empowered. Like elegies, scorpios are here to teach us how to remember, evolve and surrender.
Sagittarius (November 22–December 21): VILLANELLE
Sagittarius is absolutely a villanelle poem— mostly because almost no one knows what it is and a Sagittarius would LOVE to tell you all about it. This sign thrives when faced with adventure and unique opportunities, much like this poem with its strict and challenging form and foreign roots. Villanelles require 19 lines, five tercets in a ABA pattern, and one quatrain in ABAA. Yes, that is a real poetry type and it is as simultaneously complex and straightforward as it seems… just like our fellow fiery Sagittarians.
Capricorn (December 22–January 19): PROSE
Straightforward and to the point, this form of poetry is fitting for our practical, yet sensitive Capricorn. Our fave capricorns have a way of hitting the nail on the head the first time around. A brief poetic paragraph would be right up their alley!
Aquarius (January 20–February 18): SESTINA
A sestina is anything but simple despite its effortless flow, much like our Aquarian friends. Aquarius is the sign of progression and humanitarianism. They’re known for creatively discovering ways to make space for reinvention within the current structure of society. So a poem inviting writers to rearrange words from previous lines to form the last one mirrors an Aquarian’s ability to rearrange the world around them to create what they want to fit their new vision.
Pisces (February 19–March 20): RHYMED
The dreamer of all dreamers, the Piscean mind is one of romance, intuition, and mystical energy. Understanding that where there’s a will, there’s a word is vital to the completion of a rhymed poem. This would be where a Pisces’s ability to create something out of nothing would shine!
