Emily Henry – Funny Story

AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

Emily Henry’s Funny Story, released in April of this year, was named a Most Anticipated Book of 2024 by TIME Magazine and was an instant NYT-bestseller! It’s the story a pair of charming opposites that have nothing good in common and is sure to be THE vacay read of the summer.

If you are new to Emily Henry, here’s what you need to know:

  • She’s super popular on TikTok.
  • At the moment, three of her romantic novels are set to be adapted into films.
  • All of her books are nuanced reads about a lot more than romance.
  • Beach Read, our second favorite book on Henry’s backlist, is getting a gorgeous glow-up in October 2024, and the collector’s edition hardcover features a shimmery cover and a gold foil stamped case. A must-have for art lovers as well as Emily Henry mega-fans!

Ali Hazelwood – Not In Love

An Indie Next and a Hall of Fame LibraryReads Pick!

Ali Hazelwood, author of the adorably named Love, Theoretically, writes romance books that give smart women center stage that are perfect for people who think beach read books are too light for serious readers. Hazelwood has also dipped her toes into the paranormal romance with Bride, which was one of People’s Best Books to Read in February.

Don’t miss Deep End in early 2025 for her next book launch! Two competitive athletes share deep secrets and what is supposed to be a temporary fling. But guess what? Someone doesn’t WANT it to be temporary after all!

Haven’t read Ali Hazelwood? Here’s the important stuff:

  • She is an actual neuroscientist and a working professor.
  • She was a contributor to From a Certain Point of View, a reimagining of Return of the Jedi.
  • Ali’s books have THE BEST covers! Sophisticated and adorable and a treat to see on your bedside table or your beach blanket. Judge by the cover all you want!

Casey McQuiston – The Pairing

Casey McQuiston doesn’t have a deep backlist, but they are building a mighty one in the world of queer literature! They attracted an international fanbase with some adorable romances, primarily a lil book named Red, White & Royal Blue, which was turned into a movie by a lil company named Amazon. I Kissed Shara Wheeler was a commercial success and also garnered some critical acclaim. It was one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of the Summer and Best YA of 2022.

Mcquiston is SO GOOD at scenarios! Their newest book, The Pairing, due out in August 2024 has a doozy of a set up: two bisexual exes just so happen to book the same European food and wine tour and challenge each other to a hookup competition to prove they’re over each other…except they obviously aren’t. USA Today said,

“Move over ‘hot girl summer’ – ‘hot bisexual summer’ is ready for its moment and Casey McQuiston’s new novel The Pairing is here to usher it in.”

Here’s what you need to know about Casey McQuiston before you start turning pages:

  • Casey identifies as queer and nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.
  • Casey attended a conservative evangelical Christian school as a child and wanted to write books that would have made them “feel less isolated as a teenager.”
  • The idea for Red, White & Royal Blue was born during the 2016 presidential election!

Christina Lauren – Tangled Up In You

We are OBSESSED with the multiauthor Meant to Be series from Hyperion Avenue. The newest book, Tangled Up in You, is a sweet and sophisticated retelling of Disney’s Tangled. And it features another classic summer trope that we can’t get enough of: ROAD TRIP! She’s never held a cell phone or scrolled social media. He’s got the rest of his life mapped out. Prepare for a lot of cascading blonde hair as things truly go off the rails and his plans fall apart.

Reading a Christina Lauren book is just like talking to your best friend. And there is a reason for that! “Christina Lauren” is the pen name for a pair of writing partners and best friends Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. The powerhouse author is actually a powerhouse duo, which explains the conversational, easy flow of books like the beloved The Unhoneymooners, which spent 14 weeks on the bestseller list.

Important information to know:

  • Christina and Lauren met online while writing fanfiction and became co-authors in 2010.
  • They are published in over 30 languages and have had 30 bestselling books to date.
  • They have been inducted into the Library Reads Hall of Fame!

Lucy Score – The Worst Best Man

The BEST man? More like the WORST man. What to do when you are in charge of a wedding party that is made up of just the absolute worst people ever?

Maid of honor Franchesca is taking her job very seriously. She’s adept at handling rude relatives and clueless guests. And when the groom gets kidnapped (?!), it is just no big deal. It’s all a pleasure because she loves her best friend so much, and the groom is a perfect doll. But Franchesca isn’t at her best right now, either. Will she really let a bossy, judgmental, jerky jackhole (her word, not mine) ruin her favorite friend’s wedding? Or will Aiden Kilbourn, the Worst man, find a way to charm her as well? Or is it all about his checkbook?

Key info about Lucy (in addition to the fact that we couldn’t put down any of the titles in the Knockemout series):

  • Her first book sold a grand total of 35 copies.
  • It was a novella about a one-night stand.
  • There are a ton of short stories and other special content on her website!

Whew, we need to cool down after listing all those hot reads on the way from some of our favorite authors. It is going to be a spicy season. And speaking of spicy, I vote that we start Hot Read Summer! There will be snacks. Speaking of, if you ate up these romance reads, check out more here! There’s contemporary, diverse, popular tropes, LGBTQIA+, fantasy, and more to explore.
